Ayurveda...
Ayurveda in India
India is a country where several traditional systems of healthcare have been in use for centuries. Venn today these systems form a living and continuing tradition. Of these, Ayurveda is the most ancient medical dates back to about 5000 years B.C., which is considered as the Vedic Time. The Rig-Veda and the Atharva Veda are replete with information on various aspects of this system. Ayurveda is formed by the combination of two words, ‘Ayur’ – life, and ‘Veda’ – knowledge. Thus, Ayurveda is the ‘knowledge of life’
Ayurveda has eight distinct branches, such as:
- General Medicines
- Surgery
- Ear, Nose, Throat, Eye and mouth diseases
- Psychiatry
- Midwifery and pediatrics
- Toxicology
- Rejuvenation and Tonics
- Aphrodisiacs
It is because of these eight branches that Ayurveda is known as the Ashtanga Ayurveda. Ayurvedic system has preventive, promotive, mitigating and curative interventions.
